The Kuttiar weir is constructed for augmenting water to the Idukki Hydro Electric Project. Narakakkanam, Azhutha, Vazhikkadavu, Vadakkepuzha and Kuttiar diversion schemes were later added to augment the Idukki reservoir. The Kuttiar diversion scheme envisages diversion of water from 10.4 sq. km of catchment of Kuttiar ar to Idukki reservoir by constructing an unlined tunnel of 2697.3 m length and a weir of 101.30 m long for an additional 37 Mu power generation at Idukki Power station.

The Vazhikkadavu weir is constructed as an augmentation scheme to Idukki HEP. Narakakkanam, Azhutha, Vazhikkadavu, Vadakkepuzha and Kuttiar diversion schemes were later added to augment the Idukki reservoir . The Vazhikadavu diversion scheme envisages diversion of the water from 6 sq. Km catchment of Vazhikkadavu Ar ( tributory of Meenachil Ar.) to Idukki reservoir by constructing an unlined tunnel of 2579.25 m and weir 75 m long for regulation and additional power generation of 18.2 Mu at Idukki Power station. The weir site and tunnel inlet are located in Meenachil taluk of Kottayam District and tunnel exit site is located in Peermade taluk of Idukki district. The diversion weir site is near Vagomon – 2 Km from Vagamon town on Vagomon Erattupetta road.

Pallivasal Hydro Electric Project, the first hydro power project of Kerala State. There are two dams and one diversion weir as part of this project. These are Kundala Dam, Maduppetty Dam and R A Head works. Ramaswamy Aiyer Headworks is located 15 km downstream of Maduppetty Dam near Munnar. The water stored in the Kundala reservoir is released through the stream to Maduppetty Dam located downstream. From the Maduppetty reservoir the water is released to downstream through a dam toe power house. The controlled release from Maduppetty Dam reaches the diversion weir named R.A. Head works and from there, the water is diverted through a water conducting system to the power house of Pallivasal HEP located on the right bank of Mudirapuzha river. After generating power, the tail water is pumped to the balancing reservoir of Sengulam Hydro Electric Project and the surplus water from the sump of pumping station is spilled to the Mudirapuzha river itself.

The inflow of Vellathooval weir is governed by the tail race release of Sengulam Power House and the inflow of Muthirapuzha river.
